  • mk2 aircon.

I was just looking through some threds on here, theres one where the guy is doing a g60 conversion on a 8v mk2 and there is an air con bracket on the engine and all the pipework still in the car.

my question is this .......was air con a standard option on au spec mk2s (its propper rare here in the uk normally found on jettas, imported g60s, and rare mk2s)
If i was able to get the bits would it be fairly easy to retro fit to mine?

Yes all the factory imports that came here were 8vs with factory air con.

It would not be impossibly hard to retro fit provided you had all the bits and pieces. Starting with big radiator, condensor, compressor, hoses, clamps, belts etc through to the under dash stuff, and on dash switch panel. I'm not sure if there's anything special in the ECU ... might have to suck that one and see.

The only nightmare I can foresee is figuring out the vacume plumbing that controls the flaps inside the aircon/heater unit. It would be different. Or maybe I'm just a worrier. If you don't have one, you'd need to fabricate a gravel tray to keep the compressor belt dry in the wet.

You probably would want to check any regulations there about gas too. The Mk11 air con predates all the fuss about CFC. You might be required to modify the system to use the latest stuff.

There are no modifications required for the newer gases.
      The ECU is the same.
The air con here may have been fitted in Australia (not sure) like the stereos.

As far as I know from the specs of Australian delivered MK2 GTI's, A/C was standard equipment, so I presume it's factory fitted. All parts for the A/C link up and match as in ETKA but the stereo does not. Dont know why they put the pioneers in

The stereos were standard and fitted here.

I am not 100% sure about where the AC was fitted.

It would have been done with genuine parts though. The parts come in a kit.

                Antinora,
I'd guess someone has changed the panel . They might do this to fix the bulb which - so far as I can figure it - cannot be changed separately. However the panel is only the panel. The sliders operate a separate vacume switch behind the panel. It is the vacume switch controls the air con.

Best to look under the bonnet to see if you have a compressor below the alternator. If you do then maybe your system just needs servicing.

I suspect the AC systems were fitted here. There are anomalies between the systems on different batches.

Antinora, you should come on the cruise this Sunday and we will tell you lots about your car

Antinora, read my thread "A/C Pain thread" in the MK3 section. It will give you some idea of how painful VW A/C fixes can be... But so worth it on days like today (hot as $%^#!!!)
Has some important reading too regarding upkeep of ur system......

                        Cheers!

                            Could be belt slipping.
The light indicates alternator not charging.

I dont beleive this is true, with what parts, VW or other ? What are the anomalies ?
