Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So if I've got the mount bars on the small bumpers, I should be right?

Here's some pic of a cruise I went on through the national park and up around bundeena. Still haven't done the bumper conversion (still organising the front panel from orange).

Dont worry, I left the Hillman for dust (he seemed to think he could take corners or something quicker then me). He actually said it was hard to kepp up.

Yeh, its also just because i want to try something different. As soon as TAFE ends on the 26th NOV, ill being taking that weekend off to drive up to orange and get the front valance. Some courier company wanted $250 to get it down here. A tank of petrol is cheaper.

Still tossing up between two or four as I've got both, people keep telling me why i would want to remove them, but i like two light grills. I guess i try both out when i get the new bumpers i have on there with the rest.

Haha, Ive always liked the Mk2 because of the big bumpers imo.
Not sure about 4 or 2 light grills tho, i think they both look good, ive kept the 4 on the Cabby for the time being. Suits it better i think

Ill probably try to own a 3 door big bumper, but I just want to try something different.

Especially if she'll look like this:

Thanks mrlex, hopefully it wont take too long, thats what's killing me, just waiting. Once holidays hit, ill be attacking it like nothing else.

Wondering what i can use to insulate or sound proof the engine bay. I thought the belts were a bit loose and so tightened them, then tried some lubricant and rubber grease and it paid no dividends. Is there suppose to be some sort of cover over the belts, also i think it could be cause the belts dont line up.

                    Any Advice

Also, when i go to the small bumpers, im guessing my tailpipe is going to stick out quite a way and wont be to subtle. Can any body recommend someone who does a good job, I'm looking for something that isn't to outrageous, something tasteful, simple. Not sure on dual or single

you should definitely have belt covers. Maybe take a pic?

probably not for the serpentine belts, but yes definately for the timing belt.

i dont think those covers will really do anything for sound insulation, it's usually a bearing in one of the ancillaries that makes the squeaky noise. unless you have serp belts. then it's a whole other ball game of squeakage.

First day of the summer vac from tafe and ive already gotten stuck into it. First thing i wanted to do was give the wheels a good scrub and pressure spray, hopefully gonna have the front valance on this week.

                            Some BEFORE and AFTER shots:

                            AFTER:

The car is still low, its just the uneven lawn that makes it look higher

Also started to see how the new side trim would fit. Some people had me worried that the holes wont line up or that the fat trim actually sits below the line across the sides of the doors. BUT they do fit ALONG the line above and below. Just need a sand back and re-spray.

Someone can have the thin side trim, dont know how many takers ill get.

And the now beautiful front bumpers awaiting to go on (looking fab now with the sand, prime and respray)
