Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • G60 Flares tabs

Has anyone installed these on their MK2. If so i have a little question. With the tabs on the LH Front & RH Front Flares that would normally click into holes in the guards. Do you just cut them off and sand them flat to make them sit flush wiht the guard? As i dont want to stuff them up and it seems like the most logical thing to do. Just after some info from someone who may have done this already.

    Thanks...LVD

I think most just cut them off, rivet the flares in as normal and they seem to fit fine.

The cut out is slightly visible unless you mod your wheel arches. I was thinking of just cutting my guards to match the G60 flare cut outs at the top of the arch, dont know what others really do for that part.

cute mine off too, no worries Have done that with 2 sets now.

But don't cut the resting pad off, just the part that would clip through the fender metal.

            Hey guys.
It looks like I may be buying a MK2 GTI in the near future, and I was looking at adding G60 guards to it.
As far as I am aware, I will only need to buy the front flare's. Is this correct, or is there anything else I will need to have the G60 flare's on the car.
            Cheers.

I am almost 100% that the back ones are different too.
              Have a look on ETKA/VAGCAT

The car needs to be 90 spec as otherwise the plastic work won't fit with the door trims.

Cheers for that Gavin. This is a 91 model, so it looks like i CAN get away with just buying the front flairs...Great!! More money to spend on RM's...

yeah if your just doing the fronts you will be sweet....its the rears that need the body work to fit.

                    from the folks at TMTuning.....

"The rears can only be used with 2 door Golf´s and the G60 Euro fender panels must be used unless you want to do modifications to your current fender panels. "

Im thinking of placing an order with TMTuning (MAD EXCHANGE RATE!!!) fairly soon....where are you getting your arches from? If you are getting them from there I could add them in with my shipping.

Blitzen, If you are getting the g60 arches and standard BBS RM', you wont get the right stance, unless you buy a 2" or 2.5" dish to go on the RMs. Backk home I have my mk2 16v, its on its belly with standard gti arches (nonG60) with standard BBS (6.5 wide-dish i think is .5") and size wise 15" is ok-ish on the mk2, but i would go 16", if not definately need to go wider.....

                            just my 2 cents!!!
