Hi all the mk1 brakes are not really working as they should. Been looking at doing a brake booster/master cylinder upgrade, however trying to find a mk2 booster is a real pain. I'm just wondering if there is anything else possibly that would work in place of the mk2 one

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Can I assume that you have the 239mm no vented discs on it?
I'd probably be looking to the UK for parts.
I forget, as it's been so long since I owned one, if the MK3 servo and master cylinder fit.

Let me know if you're still after a MK2 booster.

Mk3 booster with master cylinder will bolt up perfectly! You just need to change the brakes light switch to be on the pedal instead.
Mk3 drums might fit the mk1 stubs, but you'd be better off just getting the mk3 stubs with the drums for a hassle free install.77 Mk1 GLS 2 door - That sinking feeling

Mk3 booster and servo will fit, bit you need to cut the input link and then thread it to receive the Mk1 'yoke' style link.
However, if you have leaking wheel cylinders or calipers, bulging lines, old crappy pads/shoes, then it's not going to help.....need to look at the whole system to ensure they all work togethersigpic
