  • Where to buy MK1 Golf brake booster?

    Hello guys.

I thought I'd ask here as I am doing a specific engine conversion which requires an MK1 golf brake booster for clearance.
I believe this is a 7 Inch one, but it makes it so much more confusing when I see 8 and even 9 inch ones on Ebay listings apparently from a MK1 too.

There is one online shop I believe it was VWHERITAGE, however it shows that the part is out of stock.

I have been searching the part number 172612107B but there is not much results, it appears that maybe it has been discontinued, I cannot find information on where to get the OEM ATE one. I'd appreciate any information, even if there is aftermarket good quality ones of the same size.

Lastly I will have to ask if anybody happens to know of any spares from wrecks, or happens to have one, I would consider a second hand one.

    Thanks.

Most people will have one lying around, as they are commonly upgraded or deleted in builds. If you're in Victoria you can have my old one for free. Not sure of size but it's the original one from a 76. Probably the smallest one they made
    77 Mk1 GLS 2 door - That sinking feeling
    76 Mk1 Swallowtail 2 door - Replace that BMW & 76 Sweetheart

Thanks mate that is pretty helpful to know.

Now are they all 8" or 7" as I have heard there is apparently different sizes

I have one from a later car (plastic bumper) you can have, also in Vic, no idea of the size
A bigger size would just make the pedal lighter, it doesn't effect the ultimate power, that is a function of the master vs piston

              Hi Guys.

Thanks a lot to whoever sold me his brake booster you have been of much help.

I am wondering what is the smallest booster the MK1 came in. My one seems to measure I think 7" at the front but more at the back.

Does anybody have some measurements of theirs so i can compare?

              Cheers.

I believe that some of the early Mk1's came without power brakes. If that is the case, you could simply eliminate the booster completely. You may need a different master cylinder and bracket but may be an easy conversion.
