  • Mk1 Exhausts - best option

    Hey exhaust guru's,

looking to get a new exhaust, however i have no idea where to start. What would be the best route to go, get one custom made or are there good quality ones to order off the internet? engine is a 1.8l 8v with a 4-2-1 header already.

    cheers guys.

I had fixed half the broken crap but that just meant it was still halfway inoperable

If the header is in good shape just get a shop to make up a 2" system from scratch.

Alternatively you can still buy the oem style pieces from Tooleys.

What is the matter with the one on it?
4-2-1 is generally the way to go, sizes and lengths vary depending on your induction and especially cam and what you want out of it

+1 for shop made pieces. The mk1 exhaust is super simple, especially if it's attaching to extractors. A shop will be able to make and fit one for you in a day (they did for me). That's all there is to it really, and much cheaper than getting one imported from an online shop etc.

Is the header ok? There's a mob in Sydney that still makes mild steel 4-2-1 Mk1 extractors.

I think they were called Straightline?

the headers were put on when the engine was built (silly me built an 8v) so theyre still straight and working well.

2" shop made will be more than enough. I had 4-2-1 and an 2" on my old one, and it was perfect
