  • My daily

    Hey guys
im looking at using a mk1 as a daily, but I do some highway k's and wondered if anyone else does the same? How do they go? What do I need to do to it to make sure it lasts? Or should I avoid this completely? Just curious

Just drive it. Speed limits haven't changed much since 1976. If any thing they've gotten slower.

5 Speed box might be a nice upgrade one day.

So long as it's well maintained all will be fine.

Mk1 daily is easy provided you maintain the car. I've dailied my mk1 with a 4 speed for over a year with no issues. To get some reliability, I'd suggest a mk3 1.8 for cheap as parts are still everywhere. Only issue is factory mk1 wiring is quite iffy and a pita if you don't know how to troubleshoot the issue

Kind of depends on what your expectations are, at the end of the day you are talking about a 35 to 40 year old car,
Modern traffic probably needs better front brakes and especially tyres
5 speed box and the 1.8 motor will make it both spiritely with good torque and economical
but it is still "modern" compared to other things of the same era, some people drive things with 4 wheel drums every day, in my mind that is pushing things, this type of car just needs a little sympathy

I agree with Jordan, I've been dailying my mk1 for the last couple of years and have never had any issues over the past 18 months ahaha.. With everything working as it should they're as reliable (if not more so) than any new car out there 5 speed helps a lot too
