239mm gti discs and calipers just became 280mm g60 discs with calibra v6 calipers.

I'll let y'all know how they perform once the car is in its feet again

No adaptors needed! Opels and Vauxhalls used the same caliper bolt spacing and disc diameters as vw on their front wheel drive cars. Its possible to get Opel/Vauxhall calipers to suit both a 256mm and 280mm big brake upgrade for the mk1, just need the correct vw 4 stud discs (g60 in my case).

Only thing you need to get them to work are shoulder bolts to step the thread back down to a m10, but still hold firm in the 12mm holes on the calipers. I'll make sure I take lots of photos and part numbers for those who are interested.

So here's the recap from the weekend's work. Finished off the wiring loom gents, so here are some photos, even though it couldn't be a more boring topic...
Colour coded connections for further simplicity
Off with the dash for some more wiring upgrades
It's seen better days
But I have a plastic dash in fair condition which will be replacing it
A little bondo and it's ready for the rest of the the next part of the restoration
Add in some new gauges and some oem goodness

Additionally to the work I've done I got some photos of the brakes that are going on for those who are interested

Only issue is the brake pads overhang the inside of the friction surface, meaning it'll be a prick to remove once it starts wearing in

Can't decide what to do next... Get it running and driving, or strip it down again for a paint job? I'm open to suggestions

What condition is the paint? Planning on keeping the same colour or going with something new? loving the recent updates, keep em coming!

Paint is pretty shagged. Looks like a home job from a can with no prep of clear coat. It's just a super underwhelming job. Good news is the body underneath it all seems decent enough so not much body work needed. I'll definitely keeping it white, not sure about code though

Why don't you mark the area where the pad doesn't touch the rotor and grind that bit off the pad? If you don't you already know how hard they are going to be to remove.

Thanks for the info. I had a look at the Seat Cupra calipers I've got and they are going to need an adapter to fit the MK1 hub so I'll see which is cheaper/easier to get, adaptor or Opel calipers. Where did you get your calipers from? I've already got the 280 mm disks.

Since you have the drive and motivation, I recon strip down and repaint. Unlike myself, winter has destroyed my motivation to work on the car. Damn you winter !!!

I am busy with stripping mine down completely and slowly starting fab work on the engine bay etc to get all that done as much as possible as soon as possible to spray it and then slowly start putting it back together. Love the work you have done so far.
