Hi all,
Thought it was time to post some pictures of my MK1 GTI up for you to see. I have owned him for 22 years now and imported him 7 and a half years ago when we emigrated (also bought my Corrado VR6 Storm with me, see Corrado forum for piccies).
The Golf is modified as you can see, but I have tried to keep it looking pretty stock on the outside, and yes it was a nightmare getting through Regency Park here in SA. Had to get an engineers report, fit side intrusion bars, child seat anchor points and removed the Forge atmospheric dump valve.
The mods done were all by myself except the fabrication of the inlet systems andd the exhaust system. This and the mapping for the emerald ECU was done by JKM Motors in Portsmouth UK (great guys!).
Here is what has been done.
280mm Corrado G60 front rotors, MK2 Golf Disc Brake rear conversion (uses 16V MK1 Scirocco handbrake cables), MK2 Golf brake servo and M/cylinder.
EV 1800 Solid lifter engine from MK2 Golff GTI, Bored and stroked to 2Litres with Cosworth Forged Pistons.
EIP Solid head gasket to lower compression to 9:1
Scat baffled trapdoor sump, 16V flywheel and Helix organic clutch.
Turbo Technics T3 cast manifold with Garrett T3 Turbo.
16V oil pump for DIS igntion (no distributor).
Custom fabricated inlet system and intercooler based on TT design.
Corrado G60 Green Top injectors mounted on modified inlet ports and a reversed MK2 GTI Fuel Rail
Emerald Engine Management system, MAP based, DIS Coil Pack ignition, custom HT leads, Mapped Boost, Trigger wheel timing.
ECU Sensors for Air inlet temp, Coolant temp, Boost (2 Bar Cosworth Sierra sensor), Inductive trigger wheel timing sensor, TPS modified from Passat.
ECU Driven Coil pack ignition, N75 boost modulation valve, injection timing.
3 Maps selectable from interior: Hi Boost, Medium Boost, Low Boost for poor fuel.
Boost controlled fuel pressure regulator.
Narrow band Lambda sensor and gauge in car.
Custom fabricated SS exhaust system with ceramic coated downpipe.
MK2 Scirocco ACD code gearbox (same intermediates but higher final drive),Peloquin ATB Differential (Automatic Torque Biasing), Scirocco drive shafts.
TSW Alloys with Yokohama 195/50-15 tyres.
Eibach upper front stress bar, custom fabricated lower stress bar.
Eiback anti roll bars and springs, Koni top adjustable Shocks
The car was set up on a Dyno Dynamics rolling road and this took about a week to map.
The car made 150kw but we detuned it to 130kw to avoid detonation here in Australia with elevated temps and lower grade fuel availability. It makes 271 Newton Meters of torque.
Boost is limited to 8PSI.
The torque curve is beautiful and the car drives very strongly off boost.
Hope you all like it and any questions, just give me a shout.
