Looked at your post early last week and checked the VIN code, Definately a UK car and highly likely came with CIS on the DX engine.
The K star box is an aftermarket enrichment module that was available to fit to Ket cars back in the 80's.
Ok, look at the firewall side of the battery mount tray, there will be a bracket running along parallel with the base of battery tray with 2 holes in it and a lug on the frame rail a little further towards the firewall, these are what the original ( if so ) injection air box is mounted to the body with, that may be the remaining clue if it was a GLI Cabrio or not.
I cant see any point having a Kstar fitted if it was originally a carbed car, more likely whoever did the engine swapped the head for a Non FI head .
I have cut up several older cabrio's here in Perth, once the rear side window lower seals are shot, the rainwater is directed straight down into the inner sills of the car creating a great reservoir of rotting agent, you gotta keep the seals in good nick and ensure the drain holes are kept clear.
Good luck with whatever you decide with the car.
hi grant
took some pics tonight, is this the area you mean't?
.
Yep, pics are fine. the airbox bracketry isnt there so it must have been a carb model to start with. The washer bottle bracket looks to be in factory location
I dont know if the Kstar was adaptable to any carburetor engine vehicle though . Puzzling.

i did a bit of research on the kstar unit, and it seems possible they can be used solely as a way of modifying the ignition curve to allow the car to run on 91 or 95 octane fuel
Here you go. Photo's of "TPS-084" as it was on the 25 August 2006.

Michael
thanks michael,
you knowing the rego number proved a godsend, as it was the only way i can prove the car was actually registered in australia, as it doesn't have a australian compliance or import plate. it's been so long unregistered, the VIN and engine no. were not enough to find it's history on the national register. i can now get a hard copy to satisfy qld trans. it can be registered once all the repairs are made. the other hiccup was it was registered with the VIN having a 7 instead of a Z in the middle of the VIN, so also need the proof to prove it's the same car.
even if it's too much work to register, the 1.8/2.0l engine with webber, extractors and a just discovered TSR202 cam and 5 speed box will be ideal for a swap!
