Look at your seat. It doesnt have conventional rails. To fit a race seat, you need to make up some sort of bracket to fit into the existing seat rails, or drill holes in the floor. Good luck with getting that past rego.

This is what most people do -> see the twin box section rails, which rules out ever running a stock seat again:
Despite what Loon says, there are a few companies that make proper sliding subframes for Mk1 Golfs. Konig is at least one of them, available from TCCA Motorsport in Sydney.
Have fun paying about $3000 to get one seat bolted in, though.
There's a lot more you can do to make your car quicker than buying a race seat anyway
EDIT: And DON'T drill holes in the floor as it's not strong enough :!:

Here is a purpose built seatbase that you could bolt your race seat to.
A skilled bloke could make one for you, or as ausgolfer says, expect to pay big bucks for one

And you can make it fit by building a seat base as shown above. It will not bolt straight in.

If you must fit a race seat I suggest you use a base from an old Passat seat as it sits a lot lower than the golf and have some one fabricate a frame to it to mount you new seat. Not that difficult really.
