Right, since my last post, engine is now out, gearbox has been removed and the bay is almost empty. Been on a big spend up today got,

        Piston Rings,
        Poly Bushes Kit,
        2 Engine Mounts,
Crankshaft Oil Seals for both ends,
        Head gasket,
        Sump Gasket,
        Rocker Cover Gasket,
Top Fill Rad, to replace current one so i can remove expansion tank,
Connector for rubber waterpipe going through bulkhead,
        Oil filter, oil, gearbox oil,
        Driveshaft gearbox seal kits,
        etc etc...........

Only one problem, managed to break the locating key on the small pulley on the end of the crankshaft whilst removing the nut to get to the oil seal. Not sure where i'm going to get a new pulley from now tho!

Still, this lot should help keep me busy for the next 3 days.
Will post up some more pics soon.

            Photos as promised.

            Who needs an engine hoist!

            Gearbox on its way out.

Bottom end dirty, and then cleaned up, fitting pistons back in today.

New top fill rad. Just need to find a fan to fit it.

            The broken pulley! Argh!!!!!!!

                    Cheers guys.

Problem solved, just went to local VW Dealership and they had the pulley on the shelf. Bargain price of £25, result!

Also went to my parts supplier and got new gearbox to driveshaft oil seals and another replacement engine mount.

...and finally stopped in a shop to pick up the latest Performance VW mag.

Need to go back to work, spent far too much this week!

Heres what i've been up to today instead of going to the Spring GTI Festival at Santa Pod, its been pouring with rain here today so i think i made the right decision.

Before and afters on the gearbox. I've also replaced nearly all the seals.

Firstly, loadsa engine de-greaser (GUNK), cleaned it all off.
Then used different size/shape wire wheels on the end of an electic drill to buff off all the grime.
Then washed it all down again, then cleaned it all with cellulose thinners, before today i will give it a coat of lacquer to protect it.
                                Job done!
