wont put the new donk in yet, I'm a bit busy for a while yet, so it'll have to wait a bit.

and it is possible I did flog it a fair bit, but only for like 2 weeks! I swear! ahahaa

I wont worry bout the block. not worth keeping, get scrap metal money for it and then save up for a 1.8!

Dude, golf engines will take it, especailly standard. Aslong as you don't over rev the sh*t out of it. I'd say you were just unlucky and that head is pretty tired.

bahahah. finally got round to ripping my head off this arvo. (had nothing better to do really), and as Preen had predicted and I hoped myself too, I've droppped a valve. Damage is quite evident, so there's no point repairing this engine really. Not that I'm fussed. I'll just pop a new one in.

        Woo, i was right..

Nice work. Pretty mild damage really, i was expecting worse. Heck i've seen worse when the 4 stroke endurance kart i was driving dropped a valve at the creek. (i really felt that one.. BANG, crunch crunch crunch quiet...).

Keep the complete donk, from the pics it doesn't look like its even damaged a seat.

Yeah minor stuff. (But still effective at stopping the car. )

That's fixable, but not worth the bother.

Get back to us when you've managed to put a rod through the block then we'll be impressed!

We will also be forced to remove the golf from you for it's own protection.

A mighty effort! As preen said could just be age but you should also make sure you're not running it too lean as the valves will over heat and fall off!

Usually the MK1 Motors love to rev - yours just lost the will to live.

The tune doesnt look too bad. Looking at the other chamber and the er.. 'open' exhaust port you have there, it looks pretty good. Its hard to tell with a street engine but i wouldn't say lean. The exhaust port isn't light enough.

I was fiddling around with the tune at the time, so i reckon it had something to do with it.

I had been runnin rich for 2 tanks, (got 13 L/100k!) so i leaned it out a fair bit, but i didn't think too much. but who knows.

and as pete said, it could be repaired, but it's not even worth it! I won't bother keeping the block. and I already have a spare head or two. So I think I should be alright for the time being

It wasn't think tune believe me.. You were just unlucky.

strip the block and sell all the parts on ebay.

Yep. You'll get that on the big job's.

                  Nice one Jarred.

                  Clean break too!

A bit strange that it broke that far up the stem near the valve guide.
Almost like something got in there! Nut, washer stone etc.
You have an air cleaner on?

It's fixable, but not really worth it, as another entire engine eg. 1.8,2L is much much cheaper.

I had a small block chev in a LandCruiser FJ40 shorty which kicked a couple of leg's out of bed! Made a bit of a mess!

My cousin, smashed up a 351 clev. Broke the cam in four places, broke the crank, ended up with two rod's in one bore, smashed piston's, piston's turned sideway's in the bore, collapsed an entire cyl bore into the a water jacket.
                  That's the worst I've seen.

My cousin tell's me he does & he's working on sending them to me.

He also said that the cam was broken in 7 places & in his word's "it look's worse than any 91 year old hooker!"

my old man cut a six cyl holden in half. It was in his rear engine dragster. Blown 471 6 with hilbourne mech injection on methanol. They had troubles with it lifting the pop off valve, so they locked it up.

One night it backfired at half strip (too lean) and 38 PSI took the path of least resistance and broke the piston, it threw a leg out and went right round broke the cam into 4 bits, cut the sump in 2 and came back in the other side. shortened a few other rods while it was at it too.

It's really amazing to see what can happen when something goes wrong. (You should see some of the 2 stroke kart racing engines i've seen let go )

Destruction at it's best. Alway's going to be big with a blower, injection & alcohol!

                          Love it.
