They'll be close to flush at rear with 195/45s and a few mm out at the front. 185/45/15s would be a good tyre choice as the load rating is actually safe for a Mk1

You'll need to fold the guard lip, and then it may well be ok. 195s will probably be an issue, though.

It was sweet, no issues. Pretty stiff suspension though. Had to sneak over speed humps.

Cool. 185's is what we'll most likely go for but we are after a very stretched look so maybe even 175's (if load ratings permit).
Rears will most likely get spaces if it'll only sit flush with the guards and maybe fronts aswell if its only afew mm stuck out.

I'll wait untill we get the wheels to confirm though. Thanks for info guys!

As far as I know, you can get a 175/45/15... 165/45, 185/45, 195/45 and 165/50 are all your reasonable options Show-only in the narrow sizes, though, as Nankang and Federal are about the only options, and they're pretty crap. Continental 165/45s are discontinued and were huge $

P.S. Bear in mind 165/45 are a fair way off a Mk1 legal load-rating, which may or may not be an issue for you.

175's might be a goer I think. 165's might be too much a stretch but if tyre shops wont laugh at me and tell me to piss off, I might give this ago. The look I'm after is similar to this:
Unlimited space to host images, easy to use image uploader, albums, photo hosting, sharing, dynamic image resizing on web and mobile.

You guys reckon 175's would give it?
And so far, king springs to lower is likely what I'll do (I might start a thread on that though) unless you guys have better suggestions (coil overs might make it unbearably stiff).

btw Water Boy, at the moment, its a completely stock Mk1 (albeit in great condition) so will post pics once rims are on.
