    Hey guys,

So me and the girl forked out a bit more than we wanted to but we think its worth it and this is what we are buying.

We are picking it up in Melbourne the weekend of the 14th. Would love to drive it up to Canberra but even though I believe the guy that it would make it from Melbourne to Canberra I would rather play safe. TRAILER IT IS

Going to order a headliner and carpet as soon as possible. Then I also want to know if someone can tell me if Mk3 and Mk4 front and rear seats will fit the Mk1?

WE WILL SPEND A GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME CLEANING, WASHING POLISHING AND WAXING.

Why not take the trailer but still drive the Golf back. That way you get to know how reliable it is and have a plan B if something goes wrong.

Good to see another MK1 coming to Canberra. Take lots of pictures.

Well done. Didn't take you long to find one at all!

You'll be able to make Mk3/Mk4 seats fit, just fabricate some new brackets/runners if you need to.

          Hey Lima,

It didn't take to long. But it was a lil bit more the missus pushing for getting one coz she caught the "veedub bug".

She loves the shape of it since seeing your GTi in the flesh.

We are heading down the 13th and coming back the 14th with it.

The missus is already starting to look at getting the interior sorted coz she doesn't really like the brown interior. Will keep everybody updated.

          Looking forward to getting it.

MK3 seats will fit, you just need to dismantle the seat into upper and lower sections and swap out the steel base for the MK1 base and re-assemble.

There's a few threads on here from people that have done it.

It took me a bit to find one though, I'm sure Golf Loon has written something up too http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...d-29779-2.html

What I really need it to get a Mk2 adjustable height seat base and fit that to my seats...

Mick, all you need to do is cut down the MK3 seat supports and weld them to the MK1 seat slider. If you need any help give Andrew a call. If he's busy I can help but you have to come out to God's country - Braidwood. With a bit of angle iron and a welder we can make almost any seat fit.

Best wishes with the new Golf. If you need tech help I've still got several workshop manuals including one that's 3cm thick!

                  Cheers

Would MkIV GTi seats fit? Obviously with fabrication and mods to them.

almost anything would fit, but obviously would require some fab work.

There are some guys in the UK that have put a whole mk5 interior and engine in both a mk1 and a mk2 body.

Just organised to pick up the MKIV GTi seats the same weekend we get the MK I. Wll order new headliner and carpet as soon as possible. Then the work starts with the interior. The missus wants to make the interior a bit more mondern. So we'll see what happens on the inside.

                              Hey boys,

and people in Melbourne, we are picking a Golf MK1 up in Melbourne next weekend, but are struggling to find accommodation for the Friday night for 3 peeps. If anyone could help us out or recommend a dirt cheap place we could stay that would be heaps of help!
