yeah if we kept up that rate. we would have done the whole build in a week.

sadly due to work and social lives, its still not done.

most of my time has been spent fixing up the engine. I have to get an engineer to check out the cage before I keep going with it, cos I don't want to put too much effort in, only to find I have to take to it with a grinder if I want to register it.

for the engine build details check out the thread in the diesel forum:

soooo.... its been ages since i updated this.

i have installed the pulley and fitted timing belt so the engine is pretty much done. I will update the diesel thread when i get it installed and running and have to start tuning it.

i pulled the 210mm gti clutch and flywheel from my old mk1, with the intention of fitting it straight to the TDI. Found the clutch is really worn so im gonna have to order a new one.

I have a 020 diesel box from loon which i have painted pretty silver.

I know i was intending on using the red shell shown in this thread, but if i ever want to drive this thing on the road in nsw, the cage would have to go.

sooooo... i have got a new shell.

                thanks for the pic mischa.

and its loverly... was gonna leave it completely original but its got its fair share of bumps, and its got rust in the usual places: floor pan and windscreen seal. (althought mischa said it was rust free, he needs to be introduced the amazing ability of mk1s to rust sneakily! )

the rusty coolant coloured splatter leads me to believe the heater core has obviously crapped itself in the past so i have fitted a whole new heater box (old one went missing somehow).

as of today the car now has:

straight chromies, technix coilovers, mk3 rear drums, mk1 gti ventilated front brakes, mk3 (toledo) booster and master cyl (therefore pedal switch for stop lights), new hand brake cables, new bonnet release cable, and other assorted improvements.

gotta lot of work to do on the interior, and im working on the rusty windscreen seal.

most importantly.. its gonna be TDI!!!

cant wait to post some pics... patience my fellow forumers...

                cheers

Will you be respraying the blue car? Good list of mods so far with susp and brake upgrades!

And what are you going to do with the caged red car??
