    MK1 R32 4-Motion Sport

So jealous of this. Wish I could do the Quattro build Mk1. But I'll settle for a good run about. And maybe down the track I'll be able to custom build something like this.

PS: Did you have to widen the track width of the caddy or are you allowed to shorten it in NSW?

Hi Mate you can have a customised track width with an ICV.
I have widened the track width 40mm but it could be widened again now.
Widening it by increasing the length of the Lower Control arms means having longer tie rods on the steering side of things,
which works out good for reducing bump steer.
If the Tie rods on the steering rack are short then the angles they work at become more aggressive as the hubs turn in.
reducing the track width is going to have an effect on steering geometry that might be difficult to solve properly.
They take Bump Steer pretty seriously as its an important safety issue.

Its also important that the rims that are used work to the same offset rules of the VSB.
this way the rims will not risk the integrity of the hubs and how they were designed to be used.
so widening the track width beyond the VSB standard by using greater offset wheels is still not
      acceptable.

It would not make sense to reduce the already relative narrow track width on a mk1.
You get a lot of gain in performance from widening it

Also a wider track width means meaty wheel guards and thats goat be good

The Engineer doing this project has Himself run a pretty big workshop that turned out a serious number of
Street, Custom, Drag cars the list goes on. So having an engineer that has actually built vehicles himself for a living
is better than having one that is purposing his career towards certifying mods like engine swaps.

Fantastic progress mate! Sounds like a lot of work ahead of you in terms of the engineering. All very very worth it I'm sure! Keep cracking at it

Just out of curiosity then, do you know track width of the caddy and mk1 golf then?

The reson I am asking is because I was told the track width of the Golf is to small to be able to make the Quattro system work. I can't see the caddy and the golf being that much different.

Track widths are the same, Wheel Bases are different.
You can customise the control arms, use mk4 hubs,
and use rims with an offset to bring the track width back to being the same as a mk1.
Thats one way of doing it...

And how much different is the R32 track width from the caddy and the Mk1?

Because my engineer told me that the track width is to short on the Mk1 Golf hence I can't do the whole quattro build.
