Twin downdrafts? You just need linkages which join the throttle shafts together so they both accelerate as one.

Any carby place can sell you what you want.

If you've ever got time I can come round and see what you need.

        Cheers

        • OK so after quite a while of driving the car and enjoying it I've finally gotten all my bits and pieces together for the 2L swap.

Big thanks to Michael (Mk1@4motion) for sending off the driveshafts, just waiting on the last few pieces of the puzzle but work should start in the next week or two and be completed relatively promptly (I'd like to think!)

Will be posting up progress shots and maybe even a step by step how-to if I have the chance, for anyone interested in doing a 2L bottom end/1.8 head as well as 4>5speed swap

            • So I've had the past couple of days off work so decided to get stuck into the 2L swap.
Initially I was also intending on throwing in a 5sp as well, but the driveshafts I received turned out not to have 100mm inner CVs, so will be getting those sorted in the near future and will get back to that later.

Anyway, for anyone that has looked into the 2L block swap, its pretty straight forward and the pictures should speak for themselves, the majority of my time was spent making everything look pretty.

Preparing the 2L block - TT Tuning breather block off installed (very tidy piece of kit)

RV head off ready to be cleaned up (and reused)

              Painting

Block painted up, fitting ancillaries up

              Head + carbs

              Installed

Alternator and some coolant lines are yet to be hooked up, but I still gave it a kick in the guts and it started first time and it sounded pretty sweet. I did wet my pants.

Should have everything finished off after work tomorrow, then back on the dyno to get the carbs retuned etc

Thanks to everyone for the help (Peter, David, Michael and Matt) over the past couple of weeks in my last minute prep leading up to the past 48 hour blitz

                    • it actually makes me super happy to see my old parts on such an epic car! Anything else you need Elton just let me know, I've got some 100mm drive shafts, need work on the CVs but more than happy to let them go if you need them!

Also have a whole new 93 cabby if you need parts off that.

                            • Cheers guys, thanks again Woody.
James I might be interested in those 100mm driveshafts you speak of...
The valve cover is a custom unit that came with the carbs as they don't fit with a standard cover fitted up, it doesn't have an oil cap but it has a breather on the back driver's side near the carbs.

The 2L bottom end has bucket loads of torque, completely different power delivery to what I was used to with the 1.8
Its running a bit lean and pinging under load and seems to run out of puff up in the top end, i'm hoping most of this is due to the carbs needing to be tuned (running out of fuel in the top end)

...or I might need to get a bigger cam

Sounds completely different too, will be getting some exhaust work done at some point but I think its time I focussed on the interior (about time)

                              • Welcome to the world of 2.0 torque.

My 2.0 doesn't like to rev but I've always put it down to having the standard (restrictive) exhaust manifold on my MK2. I've got a MK3 manifold which I'll fit one day which should make it breath a lot easier.

If you're going for a big cam you can go a bit wilder than you would if you had a 1.8. The extra 200cc helps tame a wild cam.

                                Cheers
