just another day working on this lemon! trying to get bits and pieces refurbished out of the way so i can start placing the engine in when it gets back from the mechanic, also thanks to Ayden (gldgti) for fabricating me a 5 speed mount out of the 4 speed mount i had presented him!

AFTER: (had various parts masked up still)

whilst drying i took the front brake calipers off and decided to give them a new coat!

You can keep that alternator mount but I think if you leave the A/C pump it'll hit the front valance.

Take a look at this thread for some ideas.

yeah it was them! well i brought the engine for $600 if im not wrong! i no its abit pricey, after calling over 15 wreckers that specialize in euro cars thats the only place that had an engine that bolts straight in. where do you normally get your parts from?

But um it just depends what youre after really, its all online or through our great forum here. As no one really stocks mk1 parts anymore.

Hahaha yeah exactly mk1 parts are becoming ancient!

Would anyone know where I can get steering rack boots for this golf or are most boots universal?
And any special procedures taking off and placing steering racks boots?

                        Thanks

a reasonable productive day with the golf,
a few days ago i had a look at Peter Jones thread about deleting p/s and a/c, went to my nearest Volkswagen store in Essendon Fields and spoke to Chris which hooked me up with a genuine vr6 water pump pulley which costed me $65,
i stared disconnecting the 3 pulleys that were running off the v-belt

i kept the powersteering pulley and cut it down to desired size and used as a spacer

after assembling the water pump pulley i measured out the size of the belt i would need and went into the nearest auto1 store. the female that served me was pretty switched on! (i was proven wrong thought they were only good in the kitchen). she recommended me with a belt which fitted on perfect and also scored a staff discount which added up to $11 for the serpintine belt.... Peter Jones also had this belt labeled in this thread! cant go wrong

right after wrapping the belt around the pulleys this is how it turned out! couldnt be more happier with a easy solution!

if anyone is having issues with a earlier 1.8l engine that wont fit into a mk1 golf and also wanting to delete the a/c and p/s for that reason read through Peter Jones A/C & P/S delete & Serpentine Belt Thread all the information you need is on there and its very simple!

Great job mate ! I actually just used an old 5 series V pulley and with some welding made it fit the pulleys. Your way however is heaps better dude, good work.
