  • 2.0 ADY in mk1 with standard 5speed mk3 box

Just wondering, what cv shafts should i use In my mk1 and I've put a 2.0 8v ADY with 5 speed out of mk3.. Do I need to shorten te mk3 cvs? Or will they bolt in!

Also shift linkages look higher than standard.. How can I accommodate this? It's the little pivot head.. Which is lower than the gearbox.. Can I just weld a bracket on or do I new mk3 shift linkages ?

You have to use MK1 drive shafts.

There's two types, ones with 90mm CVs and ones with 100mm CVs.

If your car previously had a 4 speed gearbox then it will have 90mm CVs.

Your new gearbox will have 100mm drive flanges and require the use of 100mm CVs.

You can keep the 100mm gearbox end CVs from the MK3 and put them on the MK1 driveshafts with some minor modifications to the shaft. (Search for threads relating to 100mm CVs)

What year is your MK1? Some MK1s post 1980 (Cabrios) already have 100mm CVs as standard. These can't be retrofitted to earlier golfs unless you also swap over the hub carriers as there's not enough clearance for the outer 100mm CV.

As to linkages you ideally want the linkage mechanisms from a 5 speed MK1 Golf and just bolt the lot in. If you can find someone wrecking a cabrio you can get all the bits you need from that.

Otherwise it's possible to modify the 4 speed linkages to work too, but that requires a bit more explanation.

So yeh, I did what you said and just out the 100mm flanges of mk3 cv onto my shafts!

Now I need to do the linkages :/ can you explain how to make it?
