fyi. car is still for sale. had it on ebay with $5500 start price with $7000 buy it now.

        ended today with ZERO bids.

asked a few questions to the owner, and the response (and lack thereof) was filled with bitterness. probably the reason why no one wants to look at it.

i mean seriously, there would have to be a good two dozen people out there that would buy this car...considering what it is.

i was prepared to fly down to melbourne, and fork out $7000, but the lack of people skills has turned me a way.

        pity...

lack of people skills has turned me off alot of things. suppliers, shops etc. wonder why I never recommended the place I got my exhaust made up at..? well know you know. Luckily that's only one of a few examples.

anywho. is a pity. cause this would be a riot of a car I reckon

Still haven't been on the dyno - have only just reassembled the engine late last night after niggling problems!!

Matt, what would you say that car is worth then?
test drove the car today. you guessed right pommy golfer. it is from the UK. i flew down from brisbane to see this little beast and consider buying.

the original owner imported it, modded it with mk2 gear. dash reads in mph and miles. sold it to the current owner.

drove well. punchy number. exterior is in excellent condition, but as everyone has stated...its a bit steep...even at $5500 which was start price on ebay recently.

biggest concern is that this is a MK1 we are talking about, and no doubt has attracted a lot of attention with potential buyers. it's been for sale since dec or maybe earlier (not sure). i got the hard sell...cause obviously people have turned it away after seeing it, plus the price.

i didn't get that freaking AWESOME feeling which one should really feel. my brothers old MK1 had that feeling... i would have forked out $10-12k for his car it was that good. but this one...maybe $4k.

so unfortunately, it is a no go.

anyone know of a done up mk1 gti that has that AWESOME feeling i am talking about...let me know!

This is no GTI it's just a pov spec mk1 with a decent engine...

Edited to say look at the door cards and steering wheel. It may have a GTI dash but that is an aussie mk1 through and through

everything under the bonnet was colour-coded red, sway bars, removable race steering wheel (mr bean style), electric windows, flared guards, immaculate interior, konis, 3" exhaust...and most importantly...it flew. i was only 17 when i drove it...and i still remember the adrenalin rush. nothing compares to that moment.

he ended up selling it...i had no chance buying it. loving brother was too concerned i would kill myself in the car or something!
That used to be my car. I bought it for $13,000 back in about 1996 and then had an airconditioner put in that had been imported from Japan. It was built in Sydney. The guy that I bought it off told me it cost him over $20,000 to build.

As for the silver one in question. I am sure that I have seen that car years ago. It was pretty good at the time and the 16V should have made it a bit quicker than mine.

A guy down the Gold coast built a silver Mk1 around the same time as I had the blue one. I had put a mild cam in mine and it had the supersprint extractors and full exhaust. We had a 'test run' from a set of lights. We were level until I had to change into second. He had about another 1000rpm before he changed so he got about a car length in front. I held that gap until I had to change to third when once again he had more revs to play with and he gapped me a bit further again.

Mine had fairly low gearing too, I am pretty sure that the gearbox was about the lowest close ratio box available. It would hit the rev limiter in fifth.

nice....the blue mk1 was unreal. but think that the silver one i talk about is different as i am sure that your old one had more go.

great to hear that the silver one is moving up to qld.
