I saw a Vw Mk1 Caddy for sale in South Africa the other day. Running a Vr6 turbo motor and 300kw on the wheels for $9000.
How nice will that be boys???
that would be scary.

I know it's the age old, it's what someone's willing to pay for it answer but what is a clean original Caddy worth roughly? I know they don't come up for sale often but there must be a few that have sold to roughly base it off or what someone has wanted to sell it for.
I can't recall the last time a caddy got 'publically' listed for sale and sold.
Andrew in Tassie had one that was a left hooker but not complete conversion (Although with quite a few goodies - 16V etc) I believe he was asking around 10K. That was a car he had personally imported.
I could probably land a late 1988 model totally rustfree and in good condition in Australia with a bunch of spare parts for somewhere between $10K-$15K.
My brother in law has a panel shop in Johannesburg and can source and "restore" a suitable Caddy if need be.

Anybody really looking for a MK1 Caddy, let me know.
In South Africa these where built until 2006 ...... variety of engines, including 1.3, 1.6, 1.8 carbies and 1.6 fuel injected engines ..... Under the import rules you can privately import 1 built up to 31 December 1988 and a lot where built leading up to then with 1.6 and 1.8 carbie engines. Most are used away from the coast so the bodies are generally rust free.
Due to being built there parts are plentiful and cheap. And all right hand drive with 5 speed manual gboxes. Canopies (fibreglass) also plentiful as is other bits like towbars etc.
I may be able to assist in sourcing a good example. Fee to be discussed
