Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Are these still in production?

Could someone clarify what would be required to put a 5speed into my mk1? Currently running a 4speed deisel engine because the previous owner shredded a few petrol boxes already.

Do we just swap the mounts and the 5speed goes straight in, or are there additional modifications required to fit a 5speed into a mk1?

I have an 8v 1.8 GTI motor in my 1976 LS.

You need a mount and also a modification to your shift linkage or install 5 speed linkage bits from a cabby

Since you're doing these conversions, I assume that the 5speed mount can't just be taken out of a mk2 and put into the mk1...

I might be hitting you up for one of these in the near future. Do you have any converted ones on hand? Then I could send you my 4speed mount when I've done the swap.
