  • Awesome work man !! It really turned up good. The best cars imo are those with the smallest details being done. I love it, and love the gear knob too !!

    • You will most likely fail not having rubber on the brake and clutch pedals - I hate to be a fun policeman - but just saying.

      • Something amazing has happened today.

        It's finally registered!

After leaving the car at Rev Doctor for a few days, Scott tweaked a couple of things I couldn't be bothered with and I had enough confidence to bring it in to work today for a blue slip up the road. It passed no worries and I managed to get everything I needed together and get the car registered in my lunch break!

I'm so stoked right now. Maybe the happiest man in Australia? Hahah. Got hooked up with great prices on CTP and car insurance, picked up the new plates at the same time as registering it and loved driving it around to get things done. It's such a fun car.

As you can see it's got the new wheels on it, and the chrome bumper up front. Big improvement in my books. I'm waiting on new fasteners for the rear chrome bar as the old ones sheared in half when I tried to take them out of the bracket.

There are still some little things to do, but this massive hurdle is finally behind me. Really feeling better about it all now. Thanks for the positive words on here, guys. Helps a lot.

                  • Congratulations mate, car looks awesome.

Surprised rev doctor even touched it, he seemed to hate all my cars... maybe because I didnt give him any work . (I worked in that complex at Salisbury rd for a few years.....). I think the combination of diesel-ness and german-ness didnt go down overly well..... anyway...

Its a great feeling to get a car on the road, well done!

I need to find new or NOS rub strips for chrome bumpers because seeing yours look so tidy makes me jealous!

                      • Thanks a lot, blokes. Feels awesome to have it on the road. It's getting a tune up today from the Jetronic guru Peter Bower so that should make it even better. Hauls well as it is, so I'm keen! I painted the wing mirrors back to black yesterday, fitted my head unit and tinkered with some other bits. It's looking good.

Currently it's quite tough to start and doesn't idle well until it's warm. Peter should work all that out. There are a few other little issues like a slightly sticky throttle which I've also asked him to iron out.

I'm definitely planning to make the trip down there! Very keen for it.

Hahah. Scott is a really good bloke. He may have been more inclined to take my car on because I was recommended to him by Peter, but regardless I would be happy to send anyone there.

I'm actually not running the rub strips at all. Instead I've run a piece of black vinyl where the rub strip would go front and back. It looks really neat and saves having to Sikaflex the rub strips in place. I'll get some better pictures soon so you can see what I mean, but here's another car which has done the same thing (ignore the circled bit).

I like that you can see the chrome fasteners near the indicators.

New bracket fasteners for my rear bumper arrived in the mail as I was typing this post. Can't wait to get that on the car! I'm having all the guards rolled on Thursday so I can fit my bigger spacers behind the wheels. Getting there!

                        • I do have a question about my gearbox. Is it possible to adjust the linkages at all? I can't seem to select fifth gear on my car no matter what I do.

The thought has crossed my mind that maybe it's only a four speed box, but I'm certain I was able to select six different positions (including reverse) when the box was out of the car. The code on the box is also supposed to be a five speed according to Peter Jones. I'm thinking that it might be the linkages? Does that sound possible?

                          • Ryan it took me a while to figure this out, but the small selector rod has to be shortened? if i remember correctly as when you push the gear stick to the right only then it 'pulls' the selector into place. I know it makes no sense, but the smallest rod has to be shortened, by a teeny bit.

                            • You might find it needs to be lengthened Georgey, 24mm from memory. And its the one the selector ball goes into.

                              • you might just have the 4speed linkage on there still.

5 and 4 speed linkages are different.
