  • What is a mk1 GTI Worth ?

Just wondering because in this months Top Gear Magazine they raved and raved about it. (ok Hamster did) and they searched and searched but nothing (not even one!!) for sale in Aust. Seems bizarre, so what is the unicorn GTI worth in Oz land.

I don't know tok much about Mark 1's but it's going to be a fair bit because they're all private imports as they were never sold in aus

Generally a nice one seems to be worth around 10k in Aus. The main issue isnt the price. Its finding one thats not a rust bucket.

I sold one for 5000, a real one is rare. I know of less than a dozen in the country.

Because they were never officially imported into Australia, so they are all private imports. You could import one from Europe. Good ones go for around $5000 with another $5000 on top to get it over here.

It would be worth 2x half of it's value.

ropey ones in need of resto tend to go for around 5.

pay around 10 for a nice OG one, less or more depending on modifications

Most genuine MK1 GTI as stated being so rare are normally sold through word of mouth not classifieds.

                    Good luck finding one.

So the consensus is about $5-$10 K depending on cond. Which fits in with my guess of about $6K for a ratty one.

Good luck finding one though. Are there many replicas around?

By that I mean MK1 Aussie 2drs with GTI mechanicals/bodykit. They should be easier to find.

Lots of GTI replicas around and much cheaper than an original.

Mine cost me $1000 with lots of rust but has 1.8, 5 speed, 15's, GTI brakes etc. Needs a full rebuild but the basics are there and I'm in no rush.
