  • Oil catch can and breather system

Ok so I installed an oil catch can because my PCV valve was broken and i was sick of getting oil in my airbox.... quite a lot of oil.
Now that ive installed an oil catch can i can see how much exactly,

This was after a 60km trip and im not liking the amount of oil it spits out. What could be wrong and how can i fix it? I dont feel like pouring oil back in after every trip. THe bottle does have holes cut in it for breathing.
Also out of the breather pipe on the rocker cover is practically like a second exhaust as there is a lot of gas coming out. The gas gets into the cockpit when driving which is not ideal. Is this just part and parcel of an oilcatch can?

That seems like too much oil to me and the exhaust coming out of the breather causes me to suspect that your rings are worn out.

A compression test would give some indication of ring condition.

Think Pete is right Anton, you got some seriously heavy breathing going on there

My bottle would have been lucky to get 10 mm in the bottom of oil condensate.
        Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

        Cheers,

Yeah even Tim's Mk1 with the shot engine didn't breath that heavy.. And it had 18psi being bumped into it.

yeah mate, worn rings, on another note don't pour the oil back into the motor, it will have crap in it and will only enhance engine wear. Could be time to source that 1.8GTi crank and a quick rebore. Can't believe i'm saying this but a gti crank, std rods and ......gasp mitsubishi L300 81mm pistons will all fit up quite easily for 18__ cc (depending on what head you have) and will be fairly cheap mate (crank about 100-200 ask loon or grant if they have any lying about), rebore 200-300, piston and rings at trade prob $200 and bearings etc, hit me up and we can chuck them on my workshop account for a decent cost saving
