          hahah

Don't hold your breath. This is still a while down on the list before it gets any love, unfortunately.

Been working on the mk 2 VR and getting the mk 1 cabby ready for sale. Cabby has never looked better!

Out of no where last night, I got a very sudden urge to start working on the mk 1! Don't know wether it was the beer, or the realisation that I had a few bits and pieces that I could actually/would end up needing to use.

Swapped a Weber DGV on in place of the old standarad solex that leaked fuel like a thai fishing boat.
That was all fine, except that I had some how managed to misplace one part of the throttle cable linkage/mechanism. Cobbled something together out of all the various spare carb linkage bits that I had kept.

Battery was of course dead as a dodo. (I hadn't driven the car since I had gotten it home.) Battery charger has also given up the ghost. Borrowed the mk 2's battery, and got some signs of life, but will need some more voltage before I can give it a whirl again. My goal was to get the engine running under its own power once more.

I was going to swap out a mk 3 booster and MC, but I had forgotten that I don't yet have a booster

So I decided to start poking about. Pulled off the LHS front arch. For what ever reason, it had been welded on in a couple places in a previous life, at the sill, and two tacks on the front slam. The base of the A pillar needs some attention as in worm has taken its toll. I'll pull the other arch off before getting the welder out though. Luckily the gaurd looks reasonably straight and mostly rust free.

No rust under the carbon canister. Since this car is pre-emissions, adios! The other side of the rain tray isn't in such good condition. There had been some (non factory) tar patches placed in this area which I had always been suspicious of. Seems to be a reasonable amount of rust in this area. I'll have to pull the arch off and get a better look at the other side of the inner arch before I can make a better assesment, but I can tell already that it'll take a bit of time to neaten up! There is also some significant surface rust near the join between the inner arch and the firewall. Needs further assesment.

                        Some pics.

behind the RHS head light, attached to the inner arch. (engine bay side) It's not a VW part, but its smaller and neater. It'll do for now. Did you want more pics of it?
