You can, but the resulting compression is very low and more suited to a turbo/SC application

The yanks fit 16v heads to their 8v ABA engines, but they use ABF pistons in the process to make a half-arsed "ABF" engine - or they do it to make a 16vT.

Aftermarket EFI is a waste of time & money unless you're modifying (or planning to modify) your stock engine beyond the reach of the standard ECU - or if you have an engine to transplant which came with no electrics

My olmand has a 16v head with 16v bottom end (Bloke is PL code from a US passat im pretty sure) engine is destroked with custom crank, rods etc...

In regards to after market ECU. Well Motec if you have big dollars, then there is Autronic etc. This mega-squirt stuff seems awsome for those keen to learn and tune.

i take it the Digifant and Digifant 2 is the VW efi system for golfs?

DO they have the injectors in manifold, and could one be setup to run on a Mk1 engine?
            Pretty interesting read anyway,

                ,
From the late 80's till 92, yes it was, in MK2 Golfs (feel free to correct me).
You've also got Kjet/CIS (mechanical injection) in that time period/era too for Golfs too.
