Inter-changeable suspension from other cars

Hey guys,

All 4 of my springs are compressed as to make the mk1 lower. However there is a lot of play inbetween the springs and the shock obsorbers.

My question is if there is any obsorbers from other cars that are the same fitment as a mk1. Im looking for the shock obsorber to be shorter, so it fits the compressed springs perfectly, without any play.

Im pretty sure i've seen a FTO's rear suspension, and it looked similar.
Any other ideas?

Does ANNYYYOONEEEE know if there is other shock obsorbers i can aquire, from another make or another car?

Seat Ibiza shocks & springs are suitable for the rears. Using early mk2 golf hubs you can use the fronts.

You can get short stroke shocks but will probably cost as much as coilovers.

Maybe go to the wreckers and check out some cars.

Even though its the same price as coilovers, i reckon the coilovers will die out before the suspension so in the long run it'll be worth it.

And yep my plan it take a front n rear shocker, and see if i can find any cars.
However the reason i started this thread, is to hopefully narrow some cars down. Otherwise i'd be like a headless chicken

Dude the car will die before the coilovers do. Go for a set of JOM's and be done with it, they will outlast anything from the wreakers thats for sure.

What about those strut extenders like what Jarred had in his Mk1 diesel? You can run a standard length shock and effectively extend the tower so that the car is lower but you still have shock travel??

Yeah that would work to, get standard springs and shocks and lower the car with the extenders.
