I was at Pedders the other day and they had a Corvair up on the hoist. They're infamous for being one of the very few motors that rotates counter clockwise.
They were a popular engine conversion for beetles (being an aircooled flat 6) and you could buy a cam to make them rotate the other way. (or you could just flip the diff.)

Crazy fan belt setup too.
I've heard of flipping Diff's before but it doesn't make sense. Is there enough room in the casing to do so?

No. Because the engine rotates the opposite way, so does the gear box. By turning the diff over you reverse the direction of the tyres, so it turns the tyres the right way.
