Hmm ... can't say it does much for me. Also think that it's not really gonna catch on in a big way here but will always be a fringe element. (Kinda like drifting is to motorsport what synchronised swimming is to watersports ... )
Personally I don't like the rat look which has been done intentionally, the mk1 is a precious endangered little thing allmost extinct and it pains me to see some one deliberately grinding off paint to get some rust happening. If the car is a rusted out old girl to start with then that is completely different, I respect that person who refuses to let the mk1 die even though it is almost done they still spend money on keeping the reliable old girl on the road and enjoying the drive

Agreed i do not at all condone in any way that people go and wreck a perfectly good Golf to go for the rat look... Id prefer that someone finds an old beater and rats that up rather than a good condition golf... And please dont cut or wreck any thing...
Respect the car we love for years to come...
Now keep those rat look pics and comments happeneing...
the aircooled cars involved n ratlook sometimes can be more expencive than a resto... especially after collecting rare and very very expencive items/accessories just a lil heads up

Very true some of the old Empi and Scat gear they get is very rear...
Maybe in Oz we like the retro euro look more... Original interiors, big ol skool carbies and sitting low with some nice wheels... Then theres the new skool euro look with BBS's, 16V's and euro dump pipes...
I think ill go for a mix between retro and rat...
Oh yeah and when i get roof racks on my rat look Mk1 i have couple ol suit cases, an ol esky, pinic set, chain saw and a ol skool skate board (either bannana board or long board) and if can fit it there some where one of my many lowrider/dragster/cruiser push bikes to cruise round on...
Ha ha ha keep on dreaming... Now all i havr to do is get my licence and a car...
im actually thinking of a theme for my cabby... sorta surf/beach huaii theme with the wood polish surfboard and the flower pedal necklace...
i prob wouldnt call it rat.. more like retro 70's

I'm with you Dave, just can't stand the thought that one day someone might do something like that to my much loved Jetta.
