Man tough question, some do look good but I''ve spent sooo many hours fighting rust that I just can't let it become a feature of my car...

Mate of mine had one in Nth NSW, old beetle, looked great but he had to cover the car in lanolin every second day to stop the spread - still it kept people from touching his car!! Saw one awesome beetle, forget where that had rust & lichen growing on it, very cool

Good luck if you decide to rat, contact frenzix on Aussieveedubbers if you do, he's a pro at it

Some look cool, but unless it's a painted on effect with a nice gloss finish, I don't know that I could live with it.

I prefer my cars shiny and finished rather than looking like they are falling apart. Sure the finances say that they aren't always as I would like...

      Not a great fan.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I love i just cant get enough of it... Looking at some of the Pommie and Dutch water pumpers they really have it going... Some of there caddy's are crazy...

I have been colllecting ol suit cases to put on my roof rack... Just need an ol pinic set and im right... I do say though some of the air cooled guys go just a little too far... But who cars its their car...

Definatley running a chain saw on your roof is extra kool...

I really think if you are planning a full rebuild late on why not go rat until you go the full Euro look later on...

Also some of the other golfd like Mk3's and Mk4's that are going rat are crazy...

        Keep it uo guys...

        James

P.S Please though if your are going seriouse rat look please dont do it to a good golf please and dont for the love of water cooled dubs wrecked any thing...

          interesting thread

i hate it but i love it lol,
i like old school american rat rods, and part of me thinks its good that people are doin somethin a bit different with their dubs and going rat style,
          but hell,
i hate the ones with rust and *sugar, it looks pov as.

and i guess people will think im weird, but im going flat black on hilda,
but sure as *sugarfire i wouldnt have roofracks packed with tonnes of crap and rust all over my baby.

          anyway hahaha
          just my thing

Hmmm, you mean my first little ford escort would now be considered 'art deco'?

Some done well are quite tastefull, but beauty is definetly in the eye of the beholder!

My car had the rat look without me even trying. Just ask Maron Motorsport International (Shameless plug there I know). Gotta love that action.
MK1 floG soon to have 16v 2L with cable change gbox - need a 16v turbo manifold
