Finally got around to filling in the aerial hole today. Happy with the end result. All the trim holes are now welded up too..Hooray!! I've got a few other holes to weld which I'll finish off tomorrow. That should conclude that part of the build.

I've taken out the aerial and don't intend on putting it back in, that meant the hole had to be filled. There was a small rust hole also which need to be fixed.

I first cut out all the damaged area.

Next step was to cut a piece that would fit the area tightly. I have an old damaged hatch which became my donor metal for the repair. This was held in place by a magnet underneath.

A quick zap with the welder and the 2 pieces were now one.

A little body filler over the low area and you'd never have known it was there.

Progress picture of the filled holes. Some rear camber wouldn't go astray to complement the fitment either.

Dude by the looks of that skyline and this little beauty, you have some mad DIY skills and very similar taste to mine! This is going to be sexy I can feel it. Any ideas for colour?? Matte brown with bright orange wheels and engine bay would be sickkkk

              Thanks for the kind words.

Paint scheme was decided before I bought the car haha. I'm going to be spraying it the Subaru WRX mica blue colour. It will be a satin finish not high gloss. I made the wheels white to suit this theme.

Paint has been bought and is sitting in my garage begging me to use it lol. Not long now....

              New update shortly...

New Year, New update. It's hard to party and still get stuff done haha.

Really want to get things stripped back so I can continue preparing the car for paint. Stripped down the rear end and fixed a small dent underneath the passenger tail light. A few excess holes were welded and filled over.

Removed the windows, seals, trim etc from the doors and shaved the mirrors. I got a little lazy with the body filler that day but I guess too much is better than not enough. The handles still need to be removed.

Out came the dash, The car must have had a broken window at some stage as there was broken pieces everywhere. I guess that explains why my front window came out so easy. Also the seal being in such good condition.

It wasn't all fun and games though. When the dash came out I noticed there was a seriously burnt out wire. Looks like it's been there quite a while too. I believe it was a grounding wire. I'll have to go through and double check no other wires were damaged. I removed it and everything seems to work fine still so I'm not super concerned.

Next came the engine. Removing it was Straight forward. Gotta love old cars.

Removed a few bits and pieces. Will continue it tomorrow. There are a few brackets that I will be removing as they are no longer needed. I have to repair where my clutch cable has pulled through the firewall also. Still debating if I should remove the rain tray or not. Decisions decisions...

Once everything is stripped the sanding will begin. That's the test of determination haha.

                    Stay tuned.

                        Another little update.

Engine bay was caked with grease and grime so I decided to hit it with the pressure washer. Rolled it out to the driveway and 3 cans of degreaser later it didn't come out too bad. There is still a lot of work to get it to a painting stage but at least now I wont be digging out chunks of goo with my hands.

Washed down the inner guards also and decided to paint them today. Black probably wasn't the best idea as it still looks like it's covered in fresh oil haha. Oh well.

Did these while I was at it. Not perfect but so much better than before.

I have been deciding if I should remove the scuttle tray or keep it in. The hole where the clutch cable goes through the firewall needed to be fixed also. A quick decision is a good decision..Out it comes.

I've seen some build threads where people spend the time to drill out the spot welds. I decided on a hammer and cold chisel. Brute force with accuracy had it out in 15 minutes with only 2 spot welds being pulled through (to the right of the heater hole). Will take all of 5 minutes to fill them in with the mig. Did a quick spray can primer job so the exposed metal doesn't get a chance to rust.

Grinder slipped and I accidentally cut all these out too . Lucky they were on my 'to remove' list.

                        Until next time...

Thanks for the offer Dan, I just knocked up a piece of steel plate and welded that in. Should do the trick nicely.

Cheers Mike, haha the wheels are swell. It's amazing what some TLC and paint can do.

                                Anyways Update time!

Yesterday I challenged my greatest demon, sanding... The red raw fingers and a nose full of dust was a small price to pay.

Masked it up and shot a filler then surfacer..

Then came sexy time. Not quite the satin finish I'm trying to achieve for the outside so I might have to reevaluate my clears and flatten it out a little before then. Still pretty happy with the result.

Next on my list is flaring the guards. It will either happen smoothly or totally abolish all 4 quarters haha. Lets hope it's not the latter.
