He is a Daddy's boy, and he loves his cars, mums being a relatively boring Subaru Outback, Dad's of course being something much nicer.

I will have to work out exactly what funds I can scrape together, then put the GLD up for sale in the for sale section. Then it's time to have a more concerted hunt for a new vehicle.

The real shame is you can't buy the Citi

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

$2,000 will get me most of the way to what I have spent so far and will allow me to get into a new Mk2 without hitting the wallet too hard. Mortgage + family + toys don't tend to mix as well as I would like, but then, at least the boy is cute so he gets away with it

Can i ask above the headlight switch are two warning lights what do they do?

          Top to bottom:

          Brake
          Park Brake

          Headlight Rocker Switch

          Oil
          Glow Plug

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Brake & Park brake warning light's.

Very rarely work. Or none have mine have ever worked.

Oh I never said they worked...

The Park Brake light has never worked, don't even know if it has the electronic to work.

The Brake light however does work, when I first got the car it was on, which the original owner said it has always been on and he could never get it to go off.

Strangely enough a little work on the brakes and the light is now off... Did I happen to clean up a sensor? Did new brake fluid fix the problem? The light has been off for 8 months now, so whatever did it, it now works

My prefrence would be the GTI - it's newer, sportier and more of a fun car to drive - although it would lack the character of the mk1.

But having just said that - since you have the Mk1 - I'd spend the dough on the mk1 and bring her back to her former glory.

I would keep the Mk1 GLD. I love the first generation Golfs.
Looks way too nice to get rid of.
