The door gap is good and the panel damage seems to be confined to the outer lip of the guard.

The beam has moved backwards, depending if it has taken the chassis rail with it, it could just be a matter of replacing the beam and repairing the mounting studs.

To get it back on the road quick I'd concentrate on the rear beam and rough out the guard covering it with a GTI set of flares.

I've got all the bits here to save it.

second that. Thats a mk1 well worth repairing. Very few shells around as tidy as that! From the pictures, a good weekend would see her good as new.

Oh Boy! I'm a little embarrassed by the encouragement to repair. My photography may be better than the car actually looks - from a distance great, but close up it is 30+ years old. The interior is excellent though - as good as the pics show. And it used to run really well.

Pete is correct, the major damage is to the beam which has sheared off the mounting to the rail. There is a ripple in the boot and the rear quarter no longer matches the door – outer edges don't line up – so I suspect there is some movement in the rail. Can I get you over to have a look Pete?

Oh, and one more thing my daughter insists I correct:

                            Tang has been sold.

Thanks for all the encouragement - I thought long about fixing it myself - especially after driving it up and down the drive with a trolley under the back wheel - but I have such a long list of tasks and projects that I feared Tang would rot on the driveway before I got to it.

Good luck to Carl with his new 'project' - hope the enthusiasm keeps up right to the end of the project.
Will we see it back on the road this month?
