A whiff of what's cooking in the kitchen - 'Project Carbon'...
Great stuff Stu looking amazing mate! How much were your tyres please?
I think they were about 300 Euro, which I thought was damn good value for nice quality tyres (shows how much we get ripped off down here). I think the 215/35s are pretty hard to get in Aus - I didn't even try; I can't stand dealing with people down here. Whenever you say "It's for a VW Golf", they instantly offer minimal help and it ****s me no end. The place where I bought my wheels organised fitment of the tyres in Germany, so I bought the whole lot together. Can probably track down the source if need be, so PM me if you're in need of some.
So is this going to the Golf Mk1 ABF or Golf Mk1 2.0 TFSI?
And I think we need some pics of the Lotus Elise S2 "LITEW8" (Sounds like a nice bit of kit....)
A group photoshoot is planned Re the engine in this one - that can stay under wraps for another week or two while I finish detailing it, but I haven't held back with this either The 2nd Mk1 is many $$$ away from being finished - can't even work on it until I can move the white one forward. That's it hiding behind the other cover

Hell no. The only thing I haven't done is welded in the cage - this was done years ago No one else gets near this thing!! I can't stand cheque book builds. Yes, I have poured some money in, but it's all my own work down to every nut, bolt and drop of paint.

Thats what i wanted to hear! Maximum props man!
IMO Cheque book builds are sad and boring, no matter how flash it might be or how much money they keep bragin they pumped in to it, if you havnt done it yourself then you dont diserve any credit for the work.

I totally agree. People are only ever paying to use skills someone else has learnt or been taught previously, so I see no reason why anyone building a car can't teach themselves how to do any of the things they want.
I don't see how you could ever feel connected to a 'project' if you didn't build it yourself, or even come close to the excitement of finishing one that has been all your own work.
Having a go is what it's all about. I think this is where we're all better than most of the Europeans and yanks who pay to play

Here's a cheque-book build for both of you. It's epically weak, but totally amazing at the same time. Link. Supra 'Build'
Haha! I'll try and get some pics this weekend. I have most of the rear suspension assembled so the car can sit on the ground, just need to finish off the front end. I'm also waiting on the rear camber plates, which will tuck the rears under properly. I also have a stack of carbon parts coming from Germany, which I paid upfront for over a year ago, so getting pretty impatient with this one... In other words, it's still a waiting game!
In a couple of weeks time I'm off work to finish it, so the updates will come through pretty consistently then... I promise
