      Go look at it GolfMan and tell us if 1. The engine is KJet, 2. The colour of the headlining, 3. GTI Seats.

          id rather a gti any day over the standard issue LS or GLS i had a mk1 GLS a fews years back then jumping into a gti (replica) no comparision everything is better and nicer and the dash wasnt cracked hahaha

            As far as standard issue GLS goes - no argument whatsoever...
            The GTI beats it hands down
            The point I suppose (and one that seems to get forgotten a lot), is that
            the standard LS/GLS could be made to go damm hard with a little work...
            The 75hp quoted elsewhere (which was I think 55kw from memory was a result of the !#$@ Solex carby than any inherent problems with the engine...
            The only saving grace was the nice lump of torque, and the fact that the Golf was still better than the anaemic Gemini at the time - 48 kw from memory

            The dash in the LS/GLS were specifically design to break down after a few years I think
            The later dashs (post 79) seem much more solid
