bro, to do a set up properly (wether turbo or 16V) will cost you alot more than 1500 bucks. a 16V will set you back that much alone! let alone adition upgrades, repairs, maintainance. (to build a reliable car/engine package, not just 'slapping something together')

Just enjoy that little 1600 for now, and keep saving!

Budget basically determines your build sad but true, if you only have 1500 to spend you will have to cut corners and you'll struggle with $$$. A new set of dual 45mm webbers are around $1200 and old webbers not seen running can be a hassle unless you know someone to re jet or tune them. Honestly id start looking at 1.8l 8v it will be heaven over the 1.6l anyways, the mk3 2.0l will be good depending on price and you still have to change the injection over and root around a bit.

As stated about keep saving when you have $2500 you will be better off don't need to cut so many corners with a conversion other items come into play if you only have 1.6l, you'd want to change clutch and flywheel to 210mm gives you more off the shelf clutch options list goes on.

dont forget if you change the engine you need to re register the car with that motor which means in NSW an engineers certificate which could require brake upgrades etc (not to mention that you'll want to be able to stop for safety reasons alone). Tassie is probably different but its an example of additional costs that you have to think about.

i'd dual carby it... hmm dual carbies hey... sounds good to me... that's next on my list now... >

I have a turbo mark with the 1.6 and a blow through set up.. i have done extensive work on it to make it reliable. I have custom made 4 into 1 steampipe manifold, vr4 highflowed turbo, 2.5 inch exhaust, blow through webber carby, repco thumper primer fuel pump feeds a vl turbo fuel fump which goes through a malpassi 1.7 to 1 fuel reg, freshly rebuilt engine, 1.6l, mahle pistons and rings on standard rods with arp bolts,210mm bras button clutch not to mention last week i spent $1000 on getting the head ported polished decompressed and a new headgasket. It is a very fun car to drive aswell and is happy to keep boosting and making power up to and beyond 7000rpm. Well worth it !!!

hard to see much in the pics. but i'm a fan! is the turbo mounted fairly low? i can't imagine there's much room betwenn the firewall and the extractors back there.

i've got 2 ct12 turbos from a 1jzgte motor.. hmmm should bung one of those on.. could be a hoot haha.

The 1.8 is a strong motor, but in all honesty you'd be much better off chasing a mk4 1.8T or 16v motor as the strengthening is already there.
Ive got a 1.8lt 20v turbo motor (k03 turbo and more goodies) if you are looking for one? Pm me if you are interested.
