Might of been a factory option i know british campain golf gtis come factory with a sunroof a better quaitly one where it folds back into the cabin looks alot cleaner, that sunroof looks aftermarket to me they way its setup.

Factory sunroofs are metal and wind into the roof.

Or glass. I have seen quite a few glass factory roofs that wind into the roof.
                My Scirocco has one.

All MK1s and MK2s factory sunroofs were steel and made by Golde.

Don't know about Sciroccos as they were not made by Volkswagen.
It would be easy to tell as there would be a VW logo on the glass.

yea, and i think a genuine sun roof would have looked a bit more impressive than that.. lol

No, it's aftermarket - I had one of these on my '79 GLS.
It's got a vacuum seal around it to keep it watertight.
There should be a push valve mounted on the centre console somewhere that
uses the manifold vacuum to suck the seal down away from the glass.
You hold that down while you pull the glass back.
It's a big no-no pulling the glass back without doing that.
