yeah man i wish i could do an epic restoration just don't have the cash, so i'm doing it the best i can with what i got
the sway bars/stress bars are genuine mk1 gti - i had them on another car i bought but i called vw for replacement bushes and you can still source them all from vw although they are costly, but if you can get someone to get you trade price they are a bargain.
the front struts are from spax, but they too were also on the other car
the discs i got from a place called hsy autoparts, they sell genuine vw parts at a really good price, so i got them for $105 bucks cause i knew someone there, otherwise i think they are pushing $150, which imo is still really good for brand new parts.i also decided to get new pads/brake hoses so shoud look nice when all bolted up.
also for the sway bars you could try gti imports at goulston, they may have them too, im pretty sure he said he did when i called for bushes, not sure how much tho sorry
so another saturday gone and some more work completed.
today we:
- put the boots on the cv's and re-packed them with grease
- replaced control arm bushes both inner and rear
- mounted new struts/springs
- mounted front sway bay
we were aiming to mount the hub and bolt up all the new brakes but the fitting on the hub was for a diesel ball joint which is larger than the petrol ball joint which was on the control arms i used, which really brought the day to an end. so i'm going to get new diesel ball joints (just a little stronger - especially as im planning to hit up the track) mount the hub/brakes etc this week.
also rear sway bar is going in soon and new gear shift bush kit.
ps. took a few pics of my cousins/mechanics ahah daily mk1 gld which is sacked on its ass, took a few photos of the oil sump in relation to the road lol - thought you guys might like these.
