Okay, so ended up picking up the donor car today...... price: carton of beer.

Should have quite a few things that I need and also it has a single head light grille with the chrome strip, in really good order...... finally get to get rid of the hideous double headlights in the grille of my mk1... next thing is getting some decent wheels.. I hate the wheels on my mk1... hideous hideous HIDEOUS. been wanting to change them the day I bought the car, but haven't had the cash.

anywho, Lets hope I can get her roadworthy in time!

Awesome man. Good luck with it. And another swallowtail! There must be quite a few hidden around in Tas. What are those bumpers? They look pretty unusual.

yer.. already taken out the seat belts, front grille, windscreen washer pump/bottle/jet, a vacuum hose, and will probably pinch one of the seats. All of this is so I can get the other one roadworthy for the inspection. Also getting a lot of help from Andrew (gtimk5) and the use of his workshop, which I am very grateful of

"swallowtail" models are pretty much found with a lot of the '76 mk1's I think.
Bumpers I have no idea what the story is with them.. pretty sure they're not genuine!

I noticed the bumpers too! They look pretty cool, would definitely suit a rat project...
In fact, that whole car looks perfect for a rat!

Once your two-door is RW I demand that car slammed!

Haha, dood thats a great idea. I'd love a rat golf dumped and what not. The engine is stuffed in it though. maybe when I build the white one in a year or so I take the old engine out and put in the yellow one and dump it haha. It would make an epic rat!

Yeah but those '76ers are hard to come by - well perhaps not . Haha yeah the donor would be a sick rat.

yeah, pretty sure it's the '74 - '76 models that had the lip on the back panel. Think they changed it on '77 onward.
yeah, would make a perfect rat lol might be tricky getting it roadworthy though lol.

That's what makes Swallowtails Swallowtails. They ended in mid '76 I believe, correct me if i'm wrong someone more knowledgeable!
They're more desirable because they're even more interesting and that tiny little bit more ol' school.

Yep, gotta love the little differences on swallowtails too such as the door cards.

I sure do, I'd love one.
Everytime I go to visit and work on something for my car, I think "please have become a 2-door Swallowtail... please have become a 2-door Swallowtail!"
                                Doesn't happen though.
