so I got a speeding fine... 97 in an 80 zone... fair enough, I was happy to accept that...... but then the .,d decided to do a full check.. indicators, lights, horn, etc..... at the time, my horn and my reverse lights weren't working, and my number plate was on the dash because the new number plate holes didn't match up with the front mount holes on the golf.

So he decided to be a b.. and write me up a defect notice, and checked the box "full roadworthy inspection required by authorized person" ....... great, so I already know my window washer needs replacing, seat belts, front struts, seats, and god knows what else......... how long does he give me? 2 weeks!!!! ARGH.... can't afford all that in 2 weeks.......

What a bad day I have worked on my golf for like a year now keeping it going nicely and tinkering here and there maintaining her....... and now I'm pretty much forced to take it off the road.....

Guess I'll have to strip it down and rebuild it? new engine and all?

So a police officer defects you for driving an unsafe vehicle on a public road and gives you the usual 2 weeks to have it fixed and somehow it's the police officer's fault?

actually, the usual is 28 days.. and it isn't unsafe. I was getting those problems fixed within the next few weeks anyhow. please don't tell me you've never driven a car in that sort of condition?

They're brand new plates on the dash - so it must have been passed not long ago anyways... It should have been working when you got your roadworthy... They're pretty picky about passing this here in Tas now...

I know it sucks, but at the end of the day they are doing their job. Sometimes you just have to take it and anyway, it gives you a reason to get things fixed up on the car that you may not have done otherwise.

Put yourself in the officers shoes.

How does he actually know you were "actually" getting those problems fixed? You could have been driving around like that for a few months, years etc.

Plus driving around in a car without a clearly visible # plate it just asking for it too!

They have just about heard every excuse in the book so....

tell me, how many officers do you know that may take peoples word for something? I know of nearly none!

Anyway, the car should be roadworthy to be driving on the roads.

I'm no saying I have never driven a unroadworthy car. I still do! haha. I've driven more than you've probably had hot dinners, but if you decide to speed or do anything stupid in a car your asking for them to check over the car.

I've been done for drugs searches & plenty other little things & thats just over a speeding offense.
Try that on for size when they strip your car on the side of the road only to leave you there to put it all back together in the middle of the night!

Just remember, they are only doing there jobs. How would you like if people came along & started hassling you while your trying to do your job?

Christ I'm still waiting on a Court summons for a 85km/h powerskid in a 50 zone! You don't hear me complaining!

                Deal with it.

thanks static..... makes me feel a bit better.. and I know all this, it just really fired me up because I've spent so much time money and effort into this car already.... yep, new plates, only was re-rego'd in december.......... that's why I was a bit pissed that he had to go over the whole car and then send me to get a full inspection....... he was laughing to himself too... which REALLY pissed me off... and made me think he was having a bit of a "power trip". I told him that I was waiting for a drill to drill some new holes in the plate, still he gave me a $110 fine for not having them on......... not nice... and also, told him the car was already booked in for electrical diagnosis.... still, full inspection required....... yes, I know it's his job, but he could have been a little more forgiving giving the fact I was already pretty much committed to getting the problems rectified.

anyways..... it's pretty much forced me to take it off the road as there is no way I can afford a roadworthy inspection, then all the parts that need replacing and/or fixing. At least it'll give me more motivation to start on the build.

So true all of that Mr Golfworx...
But the best feeling of all is... When you get pulled over, they search the car, look for something to defect and they can't find anything, you have to control yourself from yelling "IN YOUR FACE! I WIN!".
Exxxsssspecially when the car is modified correctly and is a bit lairy...

yeah, well.. I'm actually very honest person, and I'm mostly always doing the speed limit/doing the right thing by them. I never really do anything silly. I'm over all that ****. Just sucks that they automatically assume the worst. Guess they have to cos of all the real morons out there.

I follow the extremely nice, friendly and co-operative manner when I have to speak to a cop.

I got pulled over and defected for being too low.
Cop asks: "how many coils did you cut off the springs?"
                        Me: "um, it's an MX5".

Ah well... I feel a bit better now after a vent.. still quite a depressing thing though after all the hard work and effort that has gone into it just to keep it on the road. It was pretty much a wreck when I first bought it. Has come a long way thx to me and a couple friends. Time for a build

Sorry to hear mate, something like this would get me very frustrated. Plus I also know my car would need work to get it fixed up for a re-roadworthy too. Nice to know that there will be another Mk1 project down here though.

By the way were you driving through North Hobart recently? Got a wave from a fellow Mk1 driver and the car looked very much like yours, I was in my beige Mk1.

whats the story with yours? specs?
