honestly, I've never liked any two tone I've ever seen on a mk 1.
Sorry but that's my honest opinion. The shape doesn't lead to the colour split I dont think. Doesn't mean you still can't do it, and prove me wrong though!
Gotta agree with jarred there. With the black wheel arches too it might look like too much of a mish mash of colour here and there. Would love to see it turn out wicked though, would be pretty original.
Yeah i hear what your saying mike. i think if i am to go ahead with the two tone, i will get rid of the gti arches and flare the existing arches. (keep it a little neater) But i must say i think i'm leaning toward doing it just for an experiment for us all I get it for free after all! So it will only cost me long nights and gritty eyes besides, its about time someone did a two tone that isn't black and white haha

coming along nicely there Josh. I reckon two tone could be a winner. Your base colour is a great shade of blue to give a top deck effect. Honestly mate, we all look through these PVW and Golf+ mags and see these type of 'far out' designs (2 tone colour schemes, beetle interior, crazy wheels, rust etc) that are happening to Mk1's and think to ourselves 'thats actually pretty cool.' I know I sure do. But then we tend to hold back and play it self. (Ive had 2 mk1's and im guilty of playing it safe).
And now I really want a mk1 project so I can just let loose. Have No second thoughts about what I want to do to it or what im doing to it. Hell, half the people on here wont like the end result....stiff....Thats whats soo cool about vdubs...you can do whatever you like to them. Its like a blank canvas. Your own masterpiece

More of a money problem than playing it safe for me, I'de do lots of things with my car if I had the cash fund. Go the two tone if its possible and pull it off!
I hope you go all out that's why I am currently looking for an old Mk2 or Mk1 like yours to mould into whatever creation I feel like!
Like all of us here I think we can all say, that there is no better feeling than doing something yourself and seeing what you dreamed become a reality...
Thanks a lot mate!! yeah i know exactly what you mean. don't want to "buy" my dream car... i want to build it so yes, waiting for new leads to come in (hurry up autobarn) then it will be running fingers crossed!!! new grill coming soon and hopefully chin spoiler!

Thanks everyone for your imput on my ideas etc! really good to hear seasoned dubbers opinions!
I agree with tassie euro in the statement that you really do need to do something "out there" to stand out from the croud a little. So i have decided to go all out and have a crack at two tone to see how it goes i'll start sanding and repairing rust etc when i have half a second free in the day!!!
I just got engaged so i don't know how far away that will be hahahaha
But yes, currently looking into the laws on converting seperate front seating into bench front seating (oh i'm going there) and will get hammer and tongs onto the interior when the money becomes a little steadier
Keep up the comments, thanks for watching this thread!

The cross hairs look pretty damn good man! Im after a set myself, but dont know if i should go smoked or crystal clear! but yours look very nice. Did you get em off the net or somewhere in aus.
Also was it expensive, coz i can get them from South Africa for about $100 for the pair roughly and would advice you to as well if easier. maybe even angel eyes!!
hey george, thanks for the encouragement mate, makes it worth while when you feel like your running in circles!
I bought my cross hairs off a fellow in launceston... where i live... for 100 bucks!!! i did so well, as i was quoted 200 for a pair only a fortnight ago! They were still in there protective bubble wrap, and the joints were still all gooed up from the factory! i doubt he ever put them on his golf!! so very very very happy about that!
With regards to smoked or crystal, i think its all about what colour scheme you are going for... if you have lots of dark egdes or are going like a darker gangster the smoked would be perfect... but like me, if you want a light and bright chromed up pimpin style, i felt the crystal were more suitable.
It all comes down to personal pref though hey! Thanks for keeping an eye on this thread mate
