cheers man, hopefully this one will be back on the road in the year, the 8v's going back in first to get everything back to normal and get it on the road as well as helping me figure out where everything goes, as i bought it as a bare shell not a bolt in it and boxes full of untagged parts. I think sorting all the wiring out to go back in will be the hardest part, figuring out the other stuff's actually alot of fun!

got some good progress today, the floors ready to weld when i get some time off uni, fuel tanks out of the four door and ready to go in after weldings done. all the glass is back in the shell, the cars now rolling around and other small bits and peices are back on, as well as now i have most of the boxed stuff figured out with what each part is. Also now have a working lock in the pass side thanks to pete and preen

    how it looks today

The only two Al got wrong are the bolt which is the adjuster for the bonnet and the last one is a cover for the bottom of the seatbelt on the rear door trim on a 2 door.

great, can picture most of that now, Matt when you say the bonnet adjuster you dont mean the bolt next to the pin that slots into the front of the car when the bonnet closes? i thought that too but it's alot smaller than the spring and bolt on the bonnet latch?

2nd one from the right looks like a radiator side shroud to me.

It bolts to the front rad. support & is suppose to direct air only into the rad.

The bolt also looks more like a exhaust bolt due to the rusty color of it & also cause of the spring arrangement which is commonly seen in factory exhaust setups.

I think the bonnet adjuster bolt has a tapered nose on it to help with guidance into the bonnet catch

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Loon. But thanks anyway.

Nowadays I only really take interest in knowing as much of the ins & outs of cars that really interest me, which are very few these days.

Even though I work on VW's for a living, I don't really care for the news ones one little bit & hence have a memory like a siv for them

Give me the basics & simplicity of the old girls anyday!

Maybe I'm mad, but I still love driving mine the 600+km a week as a daily even without a radio! haha

and yes, I have had one apart lately! haha. Still have it apart!

thanks for that tim, I know what you mean about the simplicity, I'm having a ball working out how it all fits together.

                        Next quiz...
this is a photo of the car before everything was stripped,

on the dash is a little rubber button that I've circled in red. Anyone know what thats for? I've never seen one before and it looks like its a genuine fitting in the dash and also looks like its come in the wiring harness from the factory. No splicing etc. My only guess is a push start button?

I could almost guarantee that the button has been retro fitted.

I reckon your on the money as far as a push button starter, as the stock ignition switch's do stuff up & you can't get start.

My current switch is starting to play up & when its a hot day I have to really crank on the key just alittle bit more than normal to get it to start.

The only other thing I could think of, is it could also be a push button for the washer jets which isn't uncommon either.

I'd still go with the first choice.

yep your right, just had another look and it has been spliced in, must have traced a different wire back when i was looking yesterday. Will figure out what its purpose is when i get around to the wiring, something I'm not looking forward to!
