rear beam and bilstein suspension went in today out of the four door parts car. tomorrow I'm planning to get the front control arms in si I can have it rolling and have all the fuel tank and components out of the 4 door out and ready to go in once the weldings over. will also cut the floorpan cut out of the donor ready to start welding friday if all goes well.

question is how to finish the floorpan once its all welded up? I was planning to just knock it all back with a flapper disk, spray it with rust convertor to get any small bits that dont catch the eye then prime it and give it a few coats of that brush on sound deadener over the whole pan?
what have people done or recommend? other option is that dynamat gear i guess but is that not just another moisture trap?

cool the brush on deadener seems like such a convenient, easy and lighter alternative to matting, was just wondering if theres any downsides to it and if it is just as good as the foams

i dont think they're absorbent like most deadening materials are. probably dont take out as much sound though..

check the clutch cable hole on the bulkhead while you have the welder out, usual place for a massive fail, easy to fix with nuthing in the bay / interior.

What do you intend doing with the external paintwork on this car ?? come around and have a look at the blue shell here before it goes so you can see what happens when shortcuts are taken.
            Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

            Cheers,
            Grant...

Thanks grant have already made up a plate for that clutch rest. will get down next week to have a look at the blue car, paint is good enough for what i want it I'm not after a show car condition but will need to be resprayed under the gutters once they're fixed so will let our panelbeater sort that when the time comes as i don't trust myself fixing those!

Im missing a single lock barrel from the passenger door, is it possible to purchase a blank barrel and have it matched to your keys or do i have to switch across the locks and ignition barrel from the four door?

Just add the lock barrel and carry two keys? How often would you unlock the car from the passenger side anyway?

It's really easy to re-key another door lock to match.

Just rather it be right mate, if i went that option I would put a handle without a lock on the passenger side, and have only a single lock on the driver door.

Thanks, so its just a matter of buying a blank lock from VW, or can other locks be modified

You change the tumblers to the same as the original.

Just pull a couple of old locks apart. They're a pretty simple mechanism, just do it over the top of some sort of container so you don't loose any of the tiny springs.

Pull the barrel out of the lock and stick your preferred key in the lock, you'll soon see which tumblers need swapping, they should all sit flush with the barrel.

They're numbered too which makes sorting them out a bit easier.

I chucked a heap of graphite in mine the other day. Beginning to think it wasn't the best idea. Oil will be a goer when I can be stuffed.
