Had tabs welded in so i can anchor the cage to the top seatbelt mounts.
. . . and painted.
And in with the bigger booster from a mk2.
So not too much has happened (settling into a new job) but progress is still being made. Besides I am having fun just ploding along enjoying the whole process.

Now I know a lot of this is pretty rough but the car is spotless where it needs to be and at the end of the day it will be driven pretty hard on both tarmac and dirt and it's going to get banged up a bit. I do love show cars and the amazing work, time and money people put into them but what can I say? Around my place we are all about rats . . .
My daily drive at Day Of The Volkswagen earlier this year
Anyway that's enough mucking around, once I eventually get around to cleaning up the gearbox it will get bolted on and the engine can go in. Just quietly I am starting to get a little fired up as now i have most of what i need to finish the car, I am aiming to have it complete by the start of feb next year (my birthday )
Nearly forgot, I also picked up a full bush kit so everything will be nice and firm.
Over the last couple of weeks I have also spent a few hours mucking around in illistrator designing the dash instrument layout but more on that once i have finished tweaking it. I have decided not to use a speedo, the tacho is going right in the middle of the dash above the steering column, it's all about the revs baby
I did pick up all the switches and mechanical guages i need though.
So there you have it, fingers crossed the engine will be in over the next couple of weeks and I can look at hooking up the exhaust, extractors, suspension and brakes.
At the moment I am thinking about fuel and air. The types of motorsport I will be doing are all short runs so I won't need much fuel, 5 to 10 litres would do it easy so I am looking at making up a smaller tank. As for the air the webbers will sit at the front right behind the radiator and all they will get is hot air. I'm thinking making some kind of plate at the top of the radiator to shield the carbies from the heat but also force the air down. I'm not sure realy, I am just worried this may cause the car to overheat. The other thing is maybe using a twin headlight grill but taking out the centre lights and replacing them with fitted curved pipe just long enough to bend around the back of the rad and funnel cold air straight to the webbers. I know a bonnet scoop would solve this its just that I don't really like the look of them on a mk1, I think they ruin the profile. If any one has any ideas on the best way to solve this they would be greatly appreciated.
