  • My sort-of restoration

This 2 door was bought for $1800 over ebay from a lady driver in Sydney. I drove all the way up with my old man and a trailer and we brought it back down to Melb.

It was very catchy as it was straight and no body damage to it, let alone the body kit and Orange colour was a head turner. There was very few problems with the engine and the onyl thing was the starter motor. Apart from that the engine was fine. The problem was with the eletricals as the golf had an alarm fitted with central locking, although when we got it the alarm was not working and we had to dis-connect the central locking as the battery died almost everynight as to some shortage.

another pic of how it was bought.

After inspecting it for some time i thought id start on the wires. I took the alarm out as i got told it wasnt working properly and thought id try get everything else working as no indicators, horn , lights, or windscreen wipers were working.

when i took off the carpet i found out a bit of rust around where the seats go. i got to work on fixing that up aswell.

it was alot of wires everywhere and i had to re-do alot of it. everything was messed up and alot of the cables have been changed to differnt colours and i had to chase up every wire and label it.

I happen to go past a wreckers yard on Mcantyre road and happen to find a 2door mk1 sitting there. i ended up buyign that golf for $600 without wheels. the interior is quite worn and the body is starting to fade. it would be a great project for later on.

I took out the wiring loom from that golf and just through it in Mine. It made life alot easier as everything was to factory spec and the wires were all continous and didnt change half way through.

Not a bad mk1 this. Some one has taken their time on it. The body kit is horrid man.

I remember a while ago it was for sale for about 8k.

MK2 dashes are a thing of beauty compared to the oz mk1 dash. Nice price chief

Pull that kit off and put standard bumpers on it, will make it look 10 times better imo.

I remember this car from a couple of years back, while not my cup of tea it seemed to be nicely done.

                Good luck with it

Needs a bigger rev counter and that body kit needs more cowbell too.

Agreed keep the spoilers, except the strip thing over the lights, switch to single rounds with badgeless grill, rear lourver painted to match the body, a set of wide and dished wheels something retro, rear lights to all red, loose the chromes strip on the licence plate panel. and maybe get the chrome back on the windows.

Looks good with the bodykit dude.

                          Leave it on.

Those wires are a pain but. Good luck!

Thanks to all the people that like and dislike the body kit but i HIGHLY dislike it. i bought the golf with te intention of getting rid of it.

After iv spent a few weekends on the wiring loom inside the car, i had to start with the headlights horn and a few other problems. i also had to put in new door rubbers, new carpet and fix the dash board a little as it wasnt sitting proper. and YES it is a MK2 dash which i LOOOOOOVE.

i managed to find a grill similar to what i like until i find a better one.

and then i took the front and back bumper off, have in mind i still had the side skirts still on. Only problem there was this body kit was specifically made for the golf and alot of things including the side skirts were fiber glassed on and moulded. i left the side skirts on for some time.
The paint underneath whre the body kit is was horrible and hadnt been sprayed.

I needed some time to gather the same colour paint so that when i took off the body kit and side skirts i could paint it the same colour. while i was waiting on that, i got to work on my sound system. I love my sound system and with the new law where kids on thier red Ps can only have one passenger, i thought who needs a boot. so i made my own custom fit. some can like it and some dislike but its was all doen by me, so im happy with it.
