That car turned out to be a rusty four door late model.

However today I purchased a tidy 78 GLD in green that I'm rather excited about. Picking it up next Sunday

Funny how a '76 2 door becomes an older 4 door

Congrats on the GLD. Golf diesels intrigue me for some reason.

        • you know you drive a mk1 when you miss driving it

-or when with a simple change of carby, it no longer works

-or whenever you see it in your driveway you feel guilty for NOT driving it that very second

When the 'slow' setting on the wipers becomes 'off'.

It's normally the other way around! (Though my heater works perfectly).

You know you own a MK 1 when the wiper stalk mysteriously develops a fourth setting which wasn't there before (2 off, slow and a bit less slow).

When you need to pull over when it rains hard cos the wipers aren't fast enough to keep up!

                      • You know you drive a mk1 golf when you fill her up, go in and pay at the register, and walk out and smile from ear to ear how good that Italian dude was at designing your car.

                        • You know you drive a mk1 golf when you've been driving a mk2, it breaks, and then have to drive the mk1, and spin the wheels when you first take off because you forgot how little throttle you need to get it off the mark.

                          • You know you drive a mk1 when you drive along and know that your car is old, dinged, loud, bumpy, glass drops from the dash to the footwells for some reason, she's four different shades of citrus red on four different panels, and the bonnet wont stay down when your driving . . . .

. . . and you just dont care

                              • When you replace the worn out brake pads with brand new ones and barely notice any difference.
