    • When you haven't been able to drive it for three weeks due to a broken toe, then finally take it for a spin around the block knowing you can drive it without pain. That's we you remember how much FUN there are to drive!! Woohooo!!

        • you know you drive a mk1 when you spend all weekend working on it and realise you have removed more parts to solve other problems that have developed whilst you were working on it and now will have to dedicate every weekend for a month to rectify it.

          • For me it's now "You know you 'drove' a Mk1 when' you want one again!!! Even though I love my Mk4. I saw a Mk1 on a street near my work, and thought about sticking a note on the windscreen asking to buy it, but then it disappeared. My heart broke.

This is so true, I owned my first mk1 when I was 18, then again at 28 I brought another and now a few years later I brought another..

                  • I swear all I did was disconnect and reconnect the ignition and accessories loom at the steering column and cleaned the connections and they are racing now. Give it a go if it works, it is free.

You know you are driving a MK1 when you can't fit the same 3 people 2 child seats and pram in the MK1 that you just took out of the MK5. :iono:

                    • When you keep breaking window winder handles at the most inopportune moments (such as when going into a parking garage - so you can wind the window down just enough to sort of get the ticket then can't get it back up so have to leave the car with the window half down and risk it). Grrrrrr

Golf wipers have 2 speeds - slow and slightly less slow.

Old beetles have 2 speeds too - glacial and barely moving.

                          • You know you drive a Mk1 when-wherever you go,bogans are blasting past you at double the speed limit because you dusted them off at the lights 200 metres back down the road.
                            They hate that.
