  • 1976 Tow Hook options

So the 1976 model has no tow hook.

What have people done to get around this for things like track days where they are a requirement?

    Ideas and suggestions welcome.

get a chrome bumper bar with a tow hook on it.

If you dont need to run with bumpers (ie car doesn't have to be orig shilloette) I'd use and old bumper support on with a tow hook welded on.

    just 2C

      How about flexible tow straps?

The car is a 76 and so never had them. They were a loop coming off the bottom of the chrome bumper. Not until 78 did they come with a loop through the front panel.

There seems to be a little confusion here.

We're talking about emergency towing eyelets, not trailer towing tow bar just to be clear.

Post '78 had Steel loops welded to the chassis protruding through the front and rear aprons.

                  Here's mine.

Note that I've used an screw in eyelet (red) in my tow BAR hitch receiver here for track towing purposes as the factory tow EYE needs to be re-welded. You can see the factory tow EYE on the far right of the shot.

The earlier cars with chrome bumpers had a metal loop bolted to the underside of the front and rear bumpers for emergency towing purposes.

So where is the best place to affix the flexible strap? Or you only use it when required, ie when you need towing?

Needs to be fixed to the car when you're on the track, There's CAMS regs.......

Schedule C General requirements of vehicles refers

                              6. with visible towing points (capable of accepting a 40mm OD cylindrical test object) fitted forward of the front
axle and rearwards of the rear axle and capable of towing the automobile on a sealed surface with its wheels
                              locked;
